Tom Bissell is the author of the travelogue Chasing the Sea, the short story collection God Lives in St. Petersburg, and The Father of All Things, a travelogue, history, and memoir about the Vietnam War. He is also the co-author of Speak, Commentary. His work has been published in several languages and he is a frequent contributor to The Believer, Harper's, and the Virginia Quarterly Review, among other publications. His work has been selected several times by the Best American Short Stories, Best American Travel Writing, and Best American Science Writing series. In 2006, he won the Prix de Rome from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
