LiT Forum: Translator Esther Allen with José Manuel Prieto

Esther Allen is an essayist and translator of a number of books from French and Spanish, including José Martí: Selected Writings (Penguin Modern Classics, 2002). Recent books include the first translation of Antonio Di Benedetto's classic Zama (New York Review Books Classics, 2015), and The Man Between: Michael Henry Heim & a Life in Translation (Open Letter, 2014). She co-founded the PEN World Voices Festival in New York City, and directed the work of the PEN/Heim Translation Fund for its first seven years. She has twice received translation fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, and in 2006, the French government made her a Chevalier de l'ordre des arts et des lettres.
