Vision Statement
The Vermont Studio Center, an international creative community for artists and writers, exists to support intensive, disciplined studio work.
VSC provides an optimal creative atmosphere for one to three month residencies, including:
• Distraction-free, quiet space and time
• Private studios
• Private bedrooms
• Three excellent community meals daily
• The companionship of professional peers
• A dedicated staff, all of whom are artists and writers
• Interactions with renowned Visiting Artists and Writers (optional)
• Meditation and yoga (optional)
VSC is committed to preserve and evolve its campus in keeping with rural Northern Vermont traditions of environmental efficiency, modest comfort, privacy, beauty and an unhurried way of life.
VSC is a non-competitive community of working artists, writers, and staff, who honor their relationship and responsibility to the Center as well as to the community of Johnson and the world beyond.
VSC operates on a sound and sustainable business model that carefully stewards its resources and expands private financial support in order to:
• Adhere to the founding principles of the Center
• Offer more financial support for residencies
• Maintain and improve the Center’s buildings and campus
• Increase compensation for its dedicated, talented staff as appropriate.
VSC will continue to build on its national and international reputation for excellence, responding to a changing world while always holding to its core philosophy of creative work as an expression of spirit through form.
