The Schultz Sculpture Shop and outdoor work yard are communal areas for wood, metal, and fabricated work. The outdoor work yard offers space for larger pieces and non-permanent site-specific installations. The shop is equipped with pneumatic tools (die grinder, air chisel & drill). Major shop equipment includes:

Sculptors should bring any hand tools and hardware they use regularly.
The Firehouse communal area holds two 24" diameter electric kilns (for low-fire work) and the resale materials including clay, plaster, and wax.
Supplies and materials:
Molding plaster - 50 lb. bags
Gas - for Oxy/Acet. and MIG welding
Clay - terra cotta and white stoneware
Welding rod - arc & gas
Wax - microcrystalline, sculpture & paraffin
The shop offers some materials for resale. Please let us know in advance if you will need large quantities. Due to the open nature of the shop we can not accommodate polyester resin or the use of other toxic materials.

Parker and Sterns Building Supply (802-635-2377) and Johnson Farm and Garden (802-635-7282) are sources in Johnson. LWI Metalworks (802-888-2394) sells welding supplies, sheet metal, rod and bar stock in Morrisville (the next town over). Marble is available in Proctor (2 hours south). See our resident handbook for additional listings. Some materials are limited or not available in our local area Vermont, so please plan ahead.
