VSC Visiting Artists and Alumni Receive Joan Mitchell Foundation Awards

The Vermont Studio Center is proud to congratulate many of our visiting artists and alumni who received Joan Mitchell Foundation Painter and Sculptor Awards this year. The honor includes a $25,000 grant to aid in the continuation of their work in the visual arts. Visiting Artists Nari Ward, Carrie Moyer, Sheila Pepe, Jane South, John Newman and Joanne Greenbaum were selected for the prestigious award this year as well as VSC Alumni Daniel Dove, Mickalene Thomas, Paula Wilson and 2009 VSC Full Fellowship winner Blane De St. Croix.

The Joan Mitchell Foundation has also been supporting visual artists with artistic merit and financial need through the VSC Fellowship Program. The fifth year of awards will be juried at VSC's upcoming Feb. 16 full fellowship deadline. For more information on how to submit an application for this award, please visit the Apply page.

NARUMI TSUNEO

Sculpture Resident, 2002 & 2004

The Studio Center and VSC Alumnus Narumi Tsuneo ('02 and '04) are featured in Aomori No Jyutaku design magazine. Tsuneo attended the Kuwazawa Design Laboratory. Mr. Tsuneo has been to VSC twice and to The Carving Studio in West Rutland, VT. His exhibitions include Iwate Insternational Stone Sculpture Symposium, Aomori Citizen Museum, INAX Gallery, and Kurasiki City. Among his public collections are Kurashiki Natural History Museum, Carving Studio of Vermont, Johnson College - Vermont, and numerous civic commissions in Japan. He lives in the Aomori region of Japan.

Mary Hambleton's solo exhibitions include Littlejohn Contemporary Gallery, in NYC (where she is represented), Pamela Auchincloss Gallery, NYC, and Knoedler Gallery, London. Recent group exhibitions are numerous: The National Academy of Design, Brenda Taylor Gallery, The Painting Center, Robert Gilson Fine Arts, Robert Steele Gallery, and Max Protech. Articles and reviews of Hambleton’s paintings have been published in Art in America, Artforum, ARTnews, The Philadelphia Enquirer, and The Chicago Tribune.
