John Gibbons (b. 1949, Ennis, County Clare, Ireland) was educated at Limerick School of Art, Crawford Municipal School of Art and at London’s St Martin's School of Art. He is a regular visitor to the United States and Canada where he was visiting artist at Sculpture Space, Utica, NY, 1980; Triangle Arts Trust, Pine Plains, 1982; Clayworks Studio Workshop, NYC, and Syracuse University, 1983; School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 1984; Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, 1985 and Art Triangle Barcelona, 1987. Guest Sculptor; Emma Lake Artist Workshop, University of Saskatchewan, Canada, with guest painter Kenneth Noland. In 2003, Gibbons was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and in 2009 as a member of Aosdana. His work is represented in major public collections in America, Canada and Europe, including, Tate, London, Arts Council England, Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, The Modern Art Centre / Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon, Portugal, The Museum of Contemporary Art, Barcelona, Spain, The Czech Museum of Fine Arts, Prague, The Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester, Jesus College, University of Cambridge, Syracuse University, New York, USA , OPW, Ireland. "John Gibbons Portraits" was shown at The National Portrait Gallery, London in 2009. He exhibits both internationally and nationally and lives and works in London.
