Renee Cox (b. 1960, Colgate, Jamaica) received an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York, and participated in the Independent Study Program at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Recent exhibitions of the artist’s work include Black Pulp! at the Yale School of Art in New Haven; Remix, Themes and Variations in African American Art at Columbia Museum of Art in South Carolina; On Being Black at Armika Dorkins Gallery in Atlanta; Renee Cox: An Intimate Introspection at EPCC Atrium Martinique, Forte-de-France in Martinique; and You. Self. Naked. At Museums Böttcherstrasse in Germany. Cox is the recipient of an Artist Fellowship Award from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Aaron Matalon Award form the National Gallery of Jamaica, and has been an artist in residence at Light Works in Syracuse and the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire.
